  • This thesis focusses on the analysis and identification of the aerodynamic behavior and topology of the flow around the wheel-wheelhouses of the generic principle body DrivAer. The numerical examinations of the semi-model vehicle of the DrivAer body are being executed for a sufficient exact simulation of the flow topology with ground simulation and transition of the generic model. Therefore alongside of the transition both, wheel side cooling air flow escaping the generic engine compartment and the interplay with the moving roadway are being simulated. In the course of that, rim rotation based on a moving reference frame (MRF) and the radiator resistance in shape of an embossed pressure gradient (porous media) is modeled. Based on simplified numerical model examinations findings about physical behavior; the dealing with rotating reference frames; as well as porous media are being collected and used for subsequent simulations of the DrivAer body. The steady as well as unsteady flow simulations of the DrivAer body are primarily limited to the identification of the arising vortex systems and vortex structures of the front axle. Therefor the CFD-simulation findings determined with STARCCM+ are being validated by well-founded research results from the experiment and the simulation. This thesis concludes in a simulation critique that inspects numerical modeling and simulation assumptions as well as identifying opportunities for improvements of future work.
