Preliminary design of the thermal solar system and the HVAC system for the remodeling of a training building

  • This thesis describes the preliminary design of the thermal solar system and the HVAC systems for the remodeling of a training building in Wernau. In this thesis, the time profile of the heating and cooling requirements will be described. The energy demand is calculated based on relevant standard and measured data. Then the time-series annual heating energy demand curve as well as the time-series heating and cooling energy demand is presented with the aid of Microsoft Excel and Energy Plus. To meet the heating requirements of the canteen, kitchen and the station for health care, two thermal solar systems are designed for water heating system and heating system respectively. Based on heating demand, the number of solar collectors will be estimated. Suitable inclined angle of solar collectors are determined according to the level of energy coverage. Then the dimensions of the pipe network and accessories are proposed. Moreover, the control principle of solar system is briefly covered at the end of this chapter. The HVAC system is designed to take cooling and partial heating responsibility of the upper floor and the canteen. Based on spatial characteristics and requirements, the amount of air is roughly calculated. Then the dimension of sewer network is finalized and the design drawings are drafted. Thus, The specific external louvres, fire damper, and the air diffusers are selected and the pressure loss is calculated. At the end of this chapter, the control principle is also explained. The two design alternatives are evaluated both economically and ecologically. Based on the evaluation result, one design alternative is recommended as the primary design. Consider other energy consumption in the building, the level of energy consumption is evaluated.
