- Abstract Background: The theme "quality of life of children" moves more and more into the focus of health research. The study deals with this issue, because especially in relation to pupils with disabilities, there is still great need for research. Objectives: The primary objective was to evaluate the quality of life of pupils with and without disabilities from different perspectives. Furthermore, it was necessary to make comparisons, to determine effects of sociodemographic characteristics and derive recommendations. Material and Methods: The study was based on a secondary data analysis (KiGGS) as well as on interviews with children of a disability dormitory and their caregivers. Survey-instrument was the KINDL-R, a quality of life questionnaire for children and adolescent. For evaluation mean value calculations and comparisons, logistic regressions and correlations (Spear-man) were used. Results Overall, the quality of life in self and others report in both investigations was, regardless of disability, assessed as high. Pupils with disabilities forgave marginally lower and in some cases even higher values than children without disabilities. Parents of disabled pupils rated their quality of life significantly worse. Independent of the disability, there was a tendency, that girls and older pupils felt a lower quality of life. Conclusion: In contrast to the parents, the factor Disability affected the quality of life of pupils in their view not significantly. Based on this study, it was shown that even intelectual disabled pupils are able to comment their quality of life. In the future, the views of children in detecting quality of life should be reinforced considered.
